Milltown Serving Up Great Views, Great Coffee

Milltown Serving Up Great Views, Great CoffeeHello my fellow coffee lovers, time for another trek on the java journey.

Now let’s travel down by the Riverside Down by the Riverside, the mighty Mississippi River Side to Milltown coffee 3800 River Drive #2  Moline.

I spoke with a nice young man Ben, the general manager of Milltown coffee, and he told me Milltown coffee has been there for two and a half years. It gets its name from” City of Mills on the river.

It’s a place to open your mind up to creativity, escape from the stress of work and enjoy the view of the river. The large windows and spacious area make it possible and relaxing to see the river.

Although located by the new and beautifully built Western Illinois University, only a fraction of its customers are college students. They have held political meet and greets there and sports get togethers and Ben says when they have  a loyal customer return they feel a sense of security there.

Milltown has several Baristas at any given time Ben tells me “I enjoy taking coffees and sandwiches to my customers tables just to say `hi how are you?’”

Milltown coffee also serves wine and beer. That’s my kind of coffee shop! Just saying…

Their hours are Monday through Saturday 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday 7 a.m. to 5, and alcohol may be ordered starting at 11 a.m. like I said before…

They are reserved for private parties and weddings hand old what they call a vino Van Gogh night, which is basically art and wine sounds fabulous to me!.

Ben is planning on a beer night where different breweries would come from all over people can sample their suds.

Milltown Serving Up Great Views, Great CoffeeMilltown beer is from local breweries as well as from Back Pocket located in Iowa City.

I asked how long do you have to train to be a barista at Milltown he says “2 to 3 weeks or approximately 50 hours on the espresso machines.” That’s dedication!

He also says some places insist it takes two to three years to learn. I couldn’t wait that long for my coffee.

So from cinnamon rolls to salads and plain black coffee to Chardonnay (yum) Milltown has something for everyone so next time you’re down by the Riverside stop in. Ben will be happy to see as well as serve you.

This reporter’s opinion: Four stars????

Enjoy!
