Xstream Cleanup Looking To Clean Up Q-Cs

Xstream Cleanup Looking To Clean Up Q-CsNow that the snow is gone and the sun has come back, have you noticed the garbage and debris laying around and polluting our local waterways? Well, you’re not alone. And there is a way you can help!

The City of Davenport and Xstream Cleanup are joining together for the Davenport Corridor Cleanup! The goal of this cleanup is to help protect our water resources by picking up materials that might otherwise be carried by wind or water to our local creeks and streams.

This opportunity is open to anyone interested protecting the health of our local waterways. Volunteers are needed on Rockingham Rd, Welcome Way and E Kimberly Rd, all in Davenport. If you are interested in helping out, please e-mail rrd@ci.davenport.ia.us. In order to prepare resources for the cleanup (including a free t-shirt), registrations will not be accepted after 3pm on Wednesday March 22. Individuals under the age of 18 must have adult supervision. Due to proximity of traffic, this activity is not recommended for families with smaller children. Please visit https://www.cityofdavenportiowa.com/egov/apps/action/center.egov?view=form;page=1;id=663 for more information.

The Xstream Cleanup committee formed in September of 2003 due to the great success of that summer’s Duck Creek Cleanup. Chad Pregracke, of Living Lands & Waters, suggested that the group expand its cleanup efforts outside of Davenport and Bettendorf and into the entire Quad City Area. The suggestion was well received and the planning began. Check out their website at http://www.xstreamcleanup.org to keep up with activities in the area.

If you are not able to attend this weekend’s cleanup project, you can still get involved. Take this weekend as an opportunity to help out in your own neighborhoods!  Every little bit helps.
