Slay Day Benefit For Lindsay Thul Hits Public House Sunday
It’s got an unusual name, but it’s for a good cause, and while it may have little to do with winter sledding or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Slay Day, a benefit for Lindsay Thul, is taking place from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Public House, 5260 Northwest Blvd, Davenport.
“On April 18th, 2016, Lindsay was diagnosed with stage 3 invasive carcinoma, one of the rarest and most aggressive forms of breast cancer there is,” said Rachel Loussaert, one of the organizers of the event, “Lindsay’s family and friends knew that based upon this diagnosis, Lindsay would face major expense with regard to treatment. Lindsay is always ready and willing to lend a hand, and go above and beyond for others. So there was no question that we had to do the same for her. The response from individuals and the community alike have been extraordinary. And that is a direct testament to Lindsay.
“People should come and check out this benefit because Lindsay needs their help. Lindsay is a fighter. She has shared her journey using the hashtag #slayIBC because she intends to do just that, slay breast cancer. After receiving the diagnosis, Lindsay made it a point to journal about her experience. She is using her experience to educate others. Lindsay isn’t one to ask for help, but is always the first one to offer it. She is so deserving of a great turnout and we are confident that her friends, family, and this community will rally around her.”
The event will feature a silent and live auction, a 50/50 raffle, challenges, great food, specialty cocktails and more.

”We couldn’t be more excited and thrilled to see this benefit come to fruition,” Loussaert said. “We’ve put a lot of planning into this benefit because we want it to be a major success. That success wouldn’t be possible without the help of those individuals volunteering their time (especially Lindsay’s brother Nick who is spearheading the benefit), and those businesses (especially the Public House) making donations. Lindsay has expressed to me that she is so thankful for all the time and energy that is being put into this event.
“Certainly our goal is raise as much money as possible to help Lindsay with current and upcoming medical expenses,” Loussaert added. “We haven’t put a specific dollar amount to that, but I think we are hopeful we can raise between $10,000 – $20,000. We would love to surpass the amount that has already been funded through Lindsay’s Go Fund Me Page (https://www.gofundme.com/lindsaysjourney) – $23,310. And that’s why we need the support of those who know Lindsay, and even those who don’t, to rally behind her, and help us achieve these goals! Ultimately though, any amount raised will be a huge success!”
