Shipwreck! Pirates and Treasure! Swings Into Putnam
Yo ho! Yo ho! A Pirates life for me! Do you ever wish you could be a pirate? Does the idea of sword fighting and sailing the high seas leave you thrilled? Were you a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series? Then this year’s interactive exhibit at the Putnam museum is for you.
From now through January 15, 2017 “Shipwreck! Pirates and Treasure!” will be open at the Putnam Museum at 1717 W 12th St. Davenport. This interactive exhibit features some of the greatest shipwrecks in the entire world, and sections focusing on Blackbeard, Captain Kidd, Barnaby Corsairs, and Privateers and Buccaneers. The main attraction of this exhibit is the SS Republic, a ship that sank in 1865 due to a hurricane. The ship was found in 2003 at the depth of 1,700 feet. The artifacts that are included with the ships and exhibits consist of bottles, hair combs, porcelain dishware, toothbrushes, games, silver and gold coins, all of which span the time of 200 years of pirate history.
The exhibit is open from 10:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and from 12:00 p.m. till 5:00 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets can be purchased at the museum and are priced at $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens of 60 and older, college students, military with I.D., and $5 for children ages 3 to 18 years of age. Children two years and younger are free. This exhibit is open every day.
