Register Now for Rock Island Library Summer Art and Math Programs

Parents of children in the seven to 14-year age ranges can keep them busy and learning this summer with four-week art and math programs at the Rock Island Public Library.

Registration is now open for Design by Reading, presented by artist Gloria Burlingame, and Math by Design, presented by tutor Elizabeth Russell, offered at no additional charge on Tuesdays at the Main Library. These programs are suitable for children entering the 2nd through 8th grades.

The Design by Reading Summer Art Club for Kids is offered from 2:00 to 3:00 pm on Tuesdays, June 13, 20, 27 and July 11. The program features hands-on art projects paired with stories about the artists who inspired them. It is funded by the Geifman Memorial for Art and Drama of the Rock Island Public Library Foundation.

The Math by Design Summer Math Club for Kids immediately follows art, from 3:15 pm to 4:00 pm, also on June 13, 20, 27 and July 11. Each session features a fun, hands-on project that reveals how math can help participants design new worlds.

To register for either or both programs, go to the library calendar at www.rockislandlibrary.org or call the Children’s Room at 309-732-7360. Both programs are part of the library’s Reading by Design summer learning program, June 10 to July 15, at all Rock Island Libraries. Registration in the reading program is not required to attend events.

The Main Library is located at 401 19th Street, Rock Island.
