Record Your Own Q-C Story!
For nearly two centuries, people have come to the Quad Cities Area from all over the world and from all walks of life. Now, thanks to the Great Quad Cities Listen, the diverse stories from the area are being collected and shared with one another. And they want your story!
Multiple recording locations have been set up all over the QCA. Currently, you can save your own recording at the Boys and Girls Club of the Mississippi Valley/Mercado on Fifth, German American Heritage Center, Moline Public Library, Rock Island Public Library and at WVIK, Quad Cities NPR.
All interview sessions require two participants, an interviewer and an interviewee. These sessions will most likely have more of a conversational tone to them, however questions should be prepared for the interviewee ahead of time. Sessions can be scheduled by going to https://www.greatqclisten.org/schedule-a-recording/.
After recording your interview, your story will live on forever! Logistically, it will be made available on the Great Quad Cities Listen’s podcast, which can be found online at https://www.greatqclisten.org/podcast/. Select stories will also be broadcasted on WVIK during Morning Edition. Stories collected during this project will also be shared with StoryCorps and through them will be archived in the Library of Congress. The Rock Island Public Library will also be archiving all stories here in the QC using their Biblioboard system.
This project, produced by Lacy Scarmana, Benjamin Payne and Jared Johnson, is an excellent way to take the individual experiences and stories of local citizens and turn them into historical evidence of our wonderful community. This project was made possible by support from the Joyce and Tony Singh Family Foundation, and plans to continue building connections and creating a more just and compassionate world.
