No Lotion Needed To Celebrate This Buffalo Bill
Come help celebrate the birthday of one of America’s greatest legends, William ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody, in his hometown of LeClaire! The Buffalo Bill Museum, located at 199 N Front St LeClaire (1 block east of Cody Road/Hwy 67), will be celebrating the infamous Civil War hero’s birthday on Sunday, Feb 26 from 12pm-4pm. William F. Cody was born on Feb 26, 1846 in LeClaire. Cody left home at the young age of 11 to herd cattle and work and a driver on a wagon train. He went on to join the Pony Express in 1860. After the Civil War, Cody scouted for the Army and gained the nickname ‘Buffalo Bill’ as a hunter. He then went on to become one of the most successful showmen in American history. His biggest claim to fame was ”Buffalo Bill’s Wild West” show which was seen all over the country and even went as far as to perform for the Queen of England in 1887 at Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee celebration.
The Buffalo Bill Museum of LeClaire was established in 1957. Today, the museum welcomes nearly 20,000 visitors a year from all over the United States and at least 20 foreign countries. Some other exhibits to visit at the museum include: the Lone Star, a wooden hull steam powered paddle wheel, Native American artifacts, exhibits featuring 1900’s ladies’ fashion, life on the Mississippi, riverboat pilots, a 1939 Chris Craft speed boat and many more fascinating displays.
