These new panels complement the five panels completed by 2015 Metro Arts apprentices.Metro Arts Apprentices Completing Freight House Mural Addition

Lead artist Sarah Robb, one senior apprentice, and seven apprentices painted murals at the Freight House, 421 W. River Drive, Davenport, during the fall session for the 2019 Metro Arts Youth Apprenticeship Program. Apprentices worked on weekends and weeknights after school in September and October. The mural panels are scheduled to be completed on Oct. 26.

Designs for these panels were drafted by Metro Arts apprentices and reflect images that represent The Freight House and their Farmer’s Market.

The mural was sponsored and supported by the City of Davenport.

About the Metro Arts Youth Apprenticeship Program

Since the summer of 2000, Metro Arts has provided area youth 15-21 years old with paid summer apprenticeships in various arts disciplines. The program provides opportunities for youth and enhances the community through the arts. For five weeks, apprentices work together in groups to complete community art projects under the supervision and mentorship of professional artists.

This spring and summer, 104 apprentices completed eight public art projects, including murals in Davenport, Rock Island and Bettendorf, photography in Milan, sculpture at the FIGGE in Davenport and street art projects throughout Bettendorf.

Metro Arts receives generous support from our sponsors: The John Deere Foundation, the City of Bettendorf, the Grant W. and Virginia M. Brissman Foundation, the City of Rock Island, the Downtown Davenport Partnership, Friendship Manor, the Figge Art Museum, Quad City Symphony Orchestra, the City of Davenport, and the Bettendorf Public Library.
