Looking For Fun Family-Friendly Events?Looking for fun, family-friendly things to do in the cold of winter that will warm up your creative spark?

The Rock Island Library is the place for you!

Adult events at the Rock Island Public Library this February will help you beat cabin fever by exploring new hobbies and interests.

On Monday, Feb. 6, the library will help participants chill out and relax with a DIY Tropical Bath Salts project. The free make and take class, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm at the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street, will help participants mix up their own batch of Pina Colada bath salts. The event is free, and no registration is required.

On Monday, Feb. 13, the library offers a class in making handmade stamped greeting cards. The free make and take event is from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, also at the Rock Island Main Library. April Hendrickson, of April Greetings, will show participants how to make three creative birthday cards using acrylic stamping tools. The class is free and supplies are provided. Registration is required for supplies. To sign up, use the library’s online calendar or call 309-732-7341.

Both events are offered during the library’s Chill Out and Read campaign, which promotes the joys of reading for all ages during cool winter months. Participants may still register at any Rock Island Public Library and collect entry tickets for print or audio books they check out between now and Friday, Feb. 17. Prize drawings will held at the library’s Chill Out and Read Wrap Party, from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Rock Island Main Library. Chill Out and Read program participants need not be present to win. The event also includes door prizes and a free movie showing for families.
