Go Back To 1812 This Weekend At Karpeles Museum
The Karpeles Museum and the Daughters of the American Revolution have combined forces to keep the history of the Quad Cities alive.
The War of 1812 was a military conflict that lasted for two and a half years and was fought between the United States of America against United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, its North American colonies and its Native American allies. The Quad Cities were no strangers to the battles fought in this war. The Battle of Rock Island Rapids also known also called the Battle of Campbell Island was fought here, on Campbell’s Island.
On Sunday, March 5 at 2pm at the Karpeles Museum (700 22nd Street Rock Island) there will be an opportunity to witness a one of a kind drama presentation about the Battle of Rock Island Rapids. Susan McPeters, a member of DAR Chapter, will be telling the story from the viewpoint of a survivor. The performance will be an enjoyable addition to the current exhibit at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum of documents related to the War of 1812. The hours for the museum on Sunday are from 10am-4pm and visitors are encouraged to view the exhibit before or after the performance.
