Get Up Close And Personal At The Current
How would you like to get an up-close and personal experience at the brand-new hotel, The Current Iowa in downtown Davenport? Well here is your opportunity!
The Current Iowa is hosting a Grand Opening this Saturday Sep 9 and you’re invited!
This new, contemporary-style hotel, restaurant and bar is in the former Putnam Building, located at 215 Main Street Davenport. The Putnam building was originally designed by Daniel Burnham, one of America’s most important architects. Burnham helped to rebuild Chicago after the Chicago Fire of 1871. He also made very important contributions to the development of the skyscraper.
In addition to newly updated guest rooms, The Current Iowa is also home to Viva, a modern Mexican restaurant, and Up, a luxury rooftop lounge.
The Grand Opening this Saturday will begin with a live mural painting with artists, Nancy Spurlock and Andy Cross at 11 a.m. Viewers under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. shuttles will be in service to visit Hot Glass, a hands-on, non-profit shop dedicated to the instruction, presentation, interpretation, collection, documentation and preservation of the contemporary glass art movement.
From noon until 5 p.m. DJ Tom X will be providing music to help inspire the painters.
From 1-5 p.m. art tours will be available which will also include the newly renovated guest rooms.
Lemonade and cookies will be served throughout the day. Jennifer Hayes (http://www.jenniferhayesstl.com/) will be performing live art work, as well. Carrie with www.QCPaintedFaces.com will be face painting for those in attendance. Maureen with Great River Brewery will be on-site with samples.
