Free The Girls!

Attention all Quad Cities women! Your assistance is greatly needed!

We’ve all done it. You’re out shopping and see the perfect bra. On sale! You find your size, grab that baby off the rack and head to the check-out. Then you get home, put it on, and realize this bra was obviously made for someone else. So, you tuck it away and decide you’ll try again some other time.

Now is the time to pull out all those bras you don’t wear and put them to good use!

The QC Bra Drive for Free the Girls is currently collecting new and gently used bras to help women rescued from sex trafficking reintegrate into their communities. While a bra may be a simple article of clothing to most us, it can be an unbelievably empowering mode of freedom and hope for others.

By collecting bras across North America and other parts of the world, Free the Girls can ship them to their programs in El Salvador, Mozambique, and Uganda, and the women in the program can sell them in the market to make a safe and sustainable income.

Here are the local businesses accepting donations, who have stepped up and agreed to help this cause:

Coffee Hound (3451 Devils Glen Rd. Bettendorf)Free The Girls!

Crane and Pelican Café (127 S 2nd St. Le Claire)

Julia’s Floral & Gifts (825 1st Ave. Silvis)

Keller Williams Realty (3580 Utica Ridge Rd. Bettendorf)

Lavish Salon & Spa (1806 3rd Ave. Rock Island)

Miss Effie’s Country Flowers and Garden Stuff (27387 130th Ave. Donahue)

Newcomb Presbyterian Church (2619 N Division St. Davenport)

(T-W-Th 10 am – 2 pm only – drop off in office, ring bell on Central Park side of building)

SIS International Shop (108 E 2nd St. Davenport)

St. John’s Lutheran Church (4501 7th Ave. Rock Island)

VanDerGinst Law (4950 38th Ave. Moline)

In addition to bra donations, monetary donations are also needed. Any donations above and beyond what it costs to ship the bras will be sent directly to Free the Girls. Monetary donations can be made at the above-mentioned businesses or online at https://donate.freethegirls.org/team/159640. Make sure to join as a team member so we can show everyone how supportive the Quad Cities area is.

The QC Bra Drive for Free the Girls will continue through Sunday Jul 15. On that day, there will be a celebration at Miss Effie’s (27387 103th Ave. Donahue) from 2-5 p.m. Enjoy a party in the gardens and if you bring a bra to donate you will receive $10 off a bucket of U-Pick flowers (regularly $25).
