Start the New Year with Some Early Learning at Rock Island Libraries
Parents of children under five can take advantage of Rock Island Public Library early learning programs designed to help very young children be ready to read and learn in 2017.
The library’s early learning programs kick off next week off with Play and Grow for ages three and under and their caregivers. Play and Grow is offered at 10:30 am Friday, Jan. 6 at the Rock Island Main Library, 401 19th Street. Activities use the Talk, Sing, Play, Read and Write learning model to support the learning and developmental needs of young children. The structured play group meets on the first week of each month, and is free.
In the second week of January, Rock Island Library offers “Toddler Tales” weekly story times for ages five and under. Toddler Tales are offered at 10:30 am on Tuesdays, Jan. 10 to 31 at the 30/31 Branch, Wednesdays, Jan. 11 to 25 at the Southwest Branch, and Fridays, Jan. 13 to 27, at the Main Library. Each Toddler Tale event features several stories on a central theme, music, movement, and a craft. Storytime themes in January include:
- Week of 1/9: Best Books of 2016
- 1/16: Beach and Ocean Stories
- 1/23: Whimsical works of children’s author Jan Thomas
- 1/30: Snowy Winter Stories
Toddler Tale storytimes are free and do not require registration.
