Western Illinois Offering Online Master of Arts in Sociology

The Western Illinois University Sociology department is expanding its reach by introducing a new online program.

Starting this Fall 2024 semester, WIU will offer an online Master of Arts program in Sociology, which will mirror the current in-person program. The program will have three exit options: thesis, internship and non-thesis.

The program will allow for online students to enroll in the integrated Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts Sociology program which had previously only been offered for students attending in person at the Macomb campus.

“The online MA program will extend our ability to offer high quality, affordable educational opportunities to students unable to enroll at WIU’s Macomb campus,” Tawnya Adkins Covert, department chair for Sociology and Anthropology said. “Our department has offered a master’s degree in Sociology for decades and boasts hundreds of alumni. It has served as a launchpad for highly ranked doctoral programs as well as for career advancements and opportunities.”
