Midwest Food Bank Helping Families Struck BY Hurricane Helene
To prepare for the impact anticipated by Hurricane Helene, Midwest Food Bank is mobilizing its disaster relief efforts across its footprint. Hurricane Helene is expected to leave residents without power and access to clean water across the southeast. This will create an urgent need for immediate relief efforts.
Midwest Food Bank is partnering with other nonprofits to provide food and resources to stage relief when it is needed most in the days ahead:
- Georgia: Partnering with The Salvation Army, the Georgia division of Midwest Food Bank has mobilizedthree semi-loads of water and drinks, ensuring clean drinking water is available to residents facing water shortages. Relief teams are prepared to continue supplying safe drinking water as recovery efforts progress.
- Florida: In coordination with the State of Florida and multiple relief agencies, Midwest Food Bank is collaborating with local organizations to provideMREs, water, and drinks to affected areas. The Florida team will focus on regions with the highest levels of displacement and food insecurity.
- Morton, IL: Midwest Food Bank’s Disaster Relief Hub in Morton is poised to providefood boxes and clean-up kits to affected communities. These kits are crucial for families beginning the long process of rebuilding after the destruction. The team is ready to deploy additional resources as needed, ensuring that those hit hardest by Hurricane Helene receive timely assistance.
