Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos’ Statement on President Zelenskyy’s Address to Congress
Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17), a member of the powerful House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, issued a statement following President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s address to the U.S. Congress. Prior to the address, the Congresswoman joined NewsNation’s Morning in America to discuss American support for Ukraine.
“In President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s address to Congress I saw an undaunted, but dire, plea from a leader on the front lines of preserving and defending democracy. Ukraine needs help – and the United States is stepping up. That’s why in Congress, I voted to send nearly $14 billion in aid to Ukraine, and strongly support the unprecedented economic and trade sanctions being imposed on Russia. As President Zelenskyy and the people of Ukraine continue to defend themselves from the attacks of a war-hungry dictator, we stand with them.
“When President Volodymyr Zelenskyy invoked some of the darkest days of our own nation’s history, he wasn’t just speaking to Congress, he was speaking to the American people. And America has heard the call.”
