Illinois Congresswoman Bustos Issues Statement on EPA Emergency Fuel Waiver for E15 Sales

Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17), a member of the House Agriculture Committee, issued the following statement after the release of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emergency fuel waiver:

“With Putin’s war exacerbating record-high gas prices, I was pleased to see the EPA issue an emergency fuel waiver for E-15 gasoline sales throughout this summer. This decision will save consumers money, reduce our dependence on foreign oil and support our family farmers. It’s time we prioritize homegrown, renewable biofuels as a replacement for Russian energy sources and this solution will increase the availability and production of American biofuels.”

Cheri Bustos of Moline is in her 4th term as Congresswoman for Illinois’ 17th District.

The EPA’s emergency fuel waiver will go into effect on May 1 and will last for 20 days. EPA has stated their intention of renewing the waiver as long as the emergency fuel situation persists. The waiver follows President Biden’s April 12 announcement to expand E15 sales during a trip to an Iowa ethanol plant.
