Following his advocacy in Congress to expand the use of E15 fuel, Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17), a member of the Congressional Biofuels Caucus, applauded a decision by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to allow for the sale of E15 fuel for this summer. E15 is gasoline blended with 10.5 percent to 15 percent ethanol, meaning increased profits for farmers. 

 “Allowing for the sale of E15 this summer means lower prices at the pump for working families and support for our hardworking corn farmers,” said Sorensen. “In Congress, I am fighting every day to make sure we use biofuels to help our neighbors make ends meet. I remain committed to pushing for the continued expansion of E15 to help our communities and producers in the heartland.”

Since entering Congress, Sorensen has been an advocate for expanding the sale of biofuels by: 

• Introducing a bill to permit the sale of E15 year-round in 2024 in eight midwestern states, including Illinois. Currently, the year-round sale of E15 in the eight states is set to go into effect in 2025. 
• Urging Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack to permit for the sale of E15 for the summer of 2023. 
• Cosponsoring the Next Generation Fuels Act, which promotes low-carbon, high-octane fuels to reduce emissions.
