Illinois Congressman Sorensen Secures Investments for Sherrard and Savanna
Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) applauded passage of the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2024 (WRDA), which includes investments he secured for clean drinking water infrastructure in Sherrard and Savanna. WRDA authorizes the Army Corps of Engineers to carry out major water infrastructure upgrades across the country.
“Our small hometowns are a special place, filled with families that are working hard to build good livelihoods for their loved ones. And it is our job to make sure they can thrive in healthy communities,” said Sorensen. “I am proud to have secured these projects to deliver clean drinking water for our families. No parent should turn on their faucet to pour their kid a glass of water and worry about the water that is coming out of it. I look forward to the president signing this important legislation so we can help our communities update their aging water infrastructure.”
In Sherrard, Sorensen secured a project to construct a new water tower and replace a filter in the Village’s wastewater lagoon to improve water quality. In Savanna, Sorensen secured a project to construct a new drinking water pipe to maintain the City’s access to clean drinking water.
WRDA is a comprehensive water infrastructure package that authorizes U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects to improve the nation’s ports and harbors, inland waterway navigation, flood and storm protection, and other aspects of our water resources infrastructure. Now that both the House and Senate have passed the bill, it will be sent to the president for his signature.
Earlier this year, Sorensen testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to advocate for these investments to be included in WRDA. You can watch Sorensen’s full remarks to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee here.
