Western Illinois University Mourns the Death of WIU Employee Vivian “Jeannie” Coeur

MACOMB/Moline, IL – – Western Illinois University alumna alcohol and other drug (AOD) counseling specialist Vivian “Jeannie” Coeur passed away Oct. 26.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3 at Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo, IL. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2 at the funeral home. Private interment will be held at Zion Lutheran Church.

“The Western Illinois University community mourns Vivian’s passing. We extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and co-workers,” said Western Illinois University President Guiyou Huang.

Coeur began working at WIU in October 2007 as a health education specialist at the Beu Health Center, and in 2018, she moved to her current position.

She received her bachelor’s degree from WIU in 1980, and she received her master’s degree in education from Western in 1986.

“We are saddened by the loss of our colleague, Vivian. Vivian was a dedicated student and employee at Western Illinois University. She was proud of her work with the Alcohol and Other Drug Resource Center, and later as a counselor for the University Counseling Center. Her compassion and advocacy for the students she helped during her tenure undoubtedly will have a lasting positive impact. Vivian’s presence and contributions will be sincerely missed by her colleagues and her students,” WIU Counseling Center Director Cara Cerullo said.

Coeur is survived by her son, Will Coeur; siblings, Patricia Carlson, Stan Nelson and Janet Zink; and several nieces and nephews.
