Western Illinois University Announces Realignment For COEHS

The Western Illinois University College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) is announcing program and structural changes, effective July 1. This reorganization is part of an effort to become more efficient, create new program synergies and provide the region with well-educated and highly-qualified service-oriented graduates.

“The College of Education and Human Services family undertook a year-long review of potential reorganization plans,” Eric Sheffield, interim dean of the COEHS, said. “That process, with input from Interim Provost Mark Mossman, resulted in the changes noted below.”

The Military Science program and the School of Law Enforcement and Justice Administration (LEJA) will be reassigned from the College and directly report to the provost.

The management of the Horn Field Campus (HFC) will be reassigned from the Department of Recreation, Park, Tourism and Hospitality (RPTH) to COEHS.

The Sport Management master’s degree program will move from Kinesiology to RPTH, while the Physical Education P-12 licensure program will move from Kinesiology to the School of Education. The Health Sciences programs will move under Kinesiology.

The Social Work program will move under the Counselor Education and College Student Personnel (CSP) department. That department will be renamed the Department of Counselor Education, College Student Personnel and Social Work. The Health Sciences and Social Work departments will be dissolved as part of the changes.

“We believe these added efficiencies and program synergies will serve our current and future students in important ways and maintain the University’s position as a regional and state leader in providing humane, caring and qualified graduates who will support services that are essential to the well-being of our fellow citizens,” Sheffield said.
