Thomas Named Director of Western Illinois Campus Recreation
Interim Western Illinois University Campus Recreation Center Director Brian Thomas has been named the permanent director, effective May 1.
Thomas has served as interim director of Campus Recreation since June 2022. He was hired as the center’s assistant director in January 2018, and was promoted to associate director in January 2021. He has also previously served as a fitness coordinator and head personal trainer at the McDonough County YMCA, and was an adjunct instructor in WIU’s Kinesiology department in 2022.
Thomas received his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and his master’s degree in Kinesiology, both from WIU.
“I am thrilled to accept this position, and I want to express my appreciation to everyone who has supported me personally and professionally,” said Thomas. “My staff and I have a strong vision of how we would like to move forward with Campus Recreation and the Harry Mussatto Golf Course in the coming years, and I am looking forward to making that vision a reality.”
WIU Executive Director of Auxiliary Services and Risk Management Joe Roselieb said Thomas’ history with Campus Recreation and his time as interim director made him a strong candidate to lead the department.
“As a WIU alumnus, Brian has experience with all aspects of the WIU campus and is extremely knowledgeable about the connections between the University’s offices and its academic programming,” said Roselieb.
