Speakers On Racial Equity Coming To Moline’s SouthPark Mall Today
Project NOW’s Executive Director, Dwight Ford, served on the Racial Equity Roundtable on Black Homelessness which worked with researchers to release a comprehensive report on Black Homelessness in Illinois. This study is a collaboration with the University of Illinois Chicago’s Institute for Research on Race and Public Policy (IRRPP). The report underscores that Black Illinoisans are almost eight times more likely to experience homelessness compared to their white counterparts.
Ford will be joined by Christine Haley, Chief Homelessness Officer for Illinois, who says the report offers an unprecedented and groundbreaking analysis of the systemic factors driving the racial disparities in homelessness and formulates an Action Plan for Racial Equity (APRE). Both will be speaking about the study at 3:45 pm at the EVICTED exhibit on display at SouthPark Mall*** Following the media availability there will be a discussion about the report and policy changes which are needed.
Parking for the event at the mall is best behind JCPenney near the bus depot. Enter the entrance by Gulliver’s Travel –at the end of the hall turn left. The Hallmark store is on the left and our exhibit and news conference will be across the hall from that store—a former Express store. Project NOW is hosting the traveling exhibit here until August 10th.
