Pynes Named Interim Director of Institutional Research at Western Illinois

MACOMB/Moline, IL – – Christopher A. Pynes, Philosophy professor at Western Illinois University, has been named interim director of Institutional Research and Planning, effective Jan. 15.

Pynes has served as professor in the Philosophy department at WIU since 2014. Prior to that, he was an associate professor (2009-14) and assistant professor (2005-09) of Philosophy and co-director of the WIU Program for the Study of Ethics (2006-15), course director for the Tennessee Governor’s School for the Sciences (2005-11) and lecturer of Philosophy at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (2003-05).

“Dr. Pynes knowledge of University departments and state and federal regulations will allow the University to continue reporting requirements and data collection and analysis in an efficient and accurate manner. We are excited to have him on board to serve in this critical role,” said WIU President Guiyou Huang.

Pynes has also served as chair of the WIU Faculty Senate, co-editor of the Philosophical Gourmet Report (PGR), president of the Illinois Philosophical Association and chair of Department Personnel Committee (Philosophy and Religious Studies), as well as on numerous committees at the University.

Pynes received his Ph.D. from Florida State University in 2003, his master’s degree from San Diego State University in 1998, his bachelor’s degree from the University of California in Santa Barbara, CA, in 1996 and an associate degree from Santa Barbara City College in Santa Barbara in 1994.
