The 2024 competition awarded $36,000 in scholarships to high school seniors across Illinois, including the Springfield, Peoria and Moline areas. The first prize winner of this year’s competition will receive a $5,000 scholarship to MTI and a $1,000 donation to help fund their high school’s welding department. Second- and third-prize recipients will receive $2,500 and $1,000 scholarships to complete their welding training at MTI. All participants will receive a $500 MTI scholarship. Competitors will complete a timed welding project that will be judged by a panel of MTI welding faculty and staff.
The competition also provides opportunities to tour the campus and speak with members of MTI’s Admissions Team. Friends and family are invited to support competition participants. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony to announce the winners.
“This is an exciting event that allows students to showcase their talent and compete for scholarships that can help them take the next step toward a welding career,” said Colvin. “At MTI, we’re passionate about helping students change their lives by giving them the tools and training they need to build successful careers in the skilled trades.”
