Illinois Congressman Sorensen Joins UAW Workers at Picket Line
Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17) joined a United Auto Workers (UAW) picket line with workers from UAW Local 1268 at the Belvidere Assembly Plant outside Rockford.
“It was inspiring to be in Belvidere today and stand in solidarity with Local 1268 in their fight for higher wages, better benefits, and safer workplace conditions,” said Sorensen. “I will continue to have their backs, and the backs of the more than 10,000 UAW workers across Central and Northwestern Illinois, who are simply asking for their fair share at a time when big corporations and CEOs are reaping record profits.”

Since entering Congress, Sorensen has been a fierce advocate for American workers. This year, Sorensen:
- Helped introduce the Richard L. Trumka Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to push back against anti-worker laws and protect workers’ right to organize, and spoke on the House floor urging for its passage.
- Helped introduce the Striking and Locked Out Workers Healthcare Protection Act to prohibit an employer from terminating an employee’s health insurance coverage during a lockout.
- Cosponsored the Honoring our Fallen Heroes Act to recognize the undeniable connection between cancer and firefighters’ chronic occupational exposures to carcinogens.
Congressman Eric Sorensen is the first openly LGBTQ person elected to represent Illinois at the federal level and is a member of the New Democrat Coalition. He serves on the House Committee on Agriculture and the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology. Prior to serving in Congress, Sorensen was a local meteorologist in Rockford and the Quad Cities for nearly 20 years. His district includes Illinois’ Quad Cities, Rockford, Peoria, and Bloomington-Normal.
