Cindy Britton Named Western Illinois University Employee Of The Month
Western Illinois University Facilities Management Building Services Employee Cindy Britton has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for March.
Britton started at WIU part time in 2005 and was hired full time in 2010. Before WIU, Britton’s favorite roles were being a wife and mother. Her passions lie in domestic engineering.
“Being awarded this honor has lifted my spirits,” Britton said. “It means a lot to know that my work is appreciated, especially since I plan on retiring at the end of April.”
Britton was not only nominated for her work in the overall aesthetic of Memorial Hall but also for her positive attitude toward getting things done.
“In the past, our building has been somewhat neglected. Our building has a lot of student traffic for academic services, support services and campus tours. This nominee has made an extraordinary effort to make sure that our building represents the standards of Western Illinois University. They go above and beyond the basic care needs of the building and have taken on new tasks to ensure that shared spaces are clean and comfortable for students, staff, and visitors. This nominee completes these tasks with quiet enthusiasm and dedication to getting the job done. They are deserving of appreciation and I hope you will consider this nomination,” a nominator said.
Britton takes pride in her work and her nominators cannot say enough about her work ethic.
“She is very kind and always does a great job. She works hard to keep things clean and is always very easy to talk to,” another nominator said.
“The first floor is a high-traffic area for students and prospective students for campus tours and her after-hours effort reflects how well maintained the building is and it is clear Britton invests in her role without the need for direct praise or support and even, often without direction. It is time that they get the recognition they deserve,” another nominator mentioned.
Britton is also commended for how she is there for anyone when needed.
In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University’s Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.
The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff, and administrators, as well as community members wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition, should contact the Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
