Following Illinois Congressman Sorensen’s Push, House Scraps Pay Raise for Members of Congress
Following a push by Congressman Eric Sorensen (IL-17), Congresswoman Angie Craig (MN-02), and Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) to block a pay raise for Congress, the House Appropriations Committee scrapped plans to increase member pay in upcoming government funding legislation.
“While I am working to lower costs for working families, the last thing Congress should be doing is increasing pay for members,” said Sorensen. “I’m glad to see congressional leaders heard our call to not give Congress a pay raise on the taxpayer’s dime. My neighbors sent me to Washington to make government work better for our region and I’ll continue to do that as a trusted voice for Central and Northwestern Illinois.”
Sorensen previously joined his colleagues to call on congressional leaders to focus on lowering costs for working families instead of giving themselves a raise. A copy of the full letter can be found here.
