WIU Women’s Center Plans Themed Events Around ‘The Vagina Monologues’

Restrictions in place because of the COVID-19 pandemic have forced the cancellation of the annual performance of “The Vagina Monologues” at Western Illinois University; however a series of activities have been planned in its place between Feb. 22-24.

WIU Women's Center Plans Themed Events Around 'The Vagina Monologues'“Although we are not having the play this year, I feel like students will benefit and have a true understanding of what ‘The Vagina Monologues’ is if they attend the events,” said WIU Women’s Center Graduate Assistant Trameka Pope. “We are incorporating interactive activities while also educating those who are not aware. These events will be impactful and serve a greater purpose to those who attend.”

The schedule of events includes:

• Monday Feb. 22 – 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m., WIU Multicultural Center – A sticker swag event, where attendees will discuss and talk about the meaning of “The Vagina Monologues.” The center will also host a trivia contest and pass out play-themed stickers.

• Tuesday, Feb. 23 – 5-7 p.m.
, WIU Multicultural Center – Screening of a short, documentary film about “The Vagina Monologues,” play by Eve Ensler, followed by a discussion.

• Wednesday, Feb. 24 – 11 a.m.-1 p.m., WIU Multicultural Center – Wednesday with the Women’s Center – participants will be painting glasses with images related to “The Vagina Monologues.”
