Willey Named Western Illinois University February Employee of the Month
MACOMB/Moline, IL – Western Illinois University Construction Project Coordinator Derek Willey has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for February 2022.
Willey was hired for his current position in October 2020.
According to his nominator, Willey is knowledgeable and always eager to help.
“In the year and a half he has been in Facilities Management, he has worked on several large construction projects, all over campus that have impacted scores of people,” his nominator said. “We are impressed with the designs he has created for the Horn Field Pavilion, the School of Agriculture’s storage building, and the soon-to-be-built Marching Leathernecks’ practice shed.”
His nominator added that he has excellent communication skills and brings empathy and solutions to situations on campus.
“He understands the impact projects can have on students, faculty and staff,” the nominator said. “He has also assisted in restructuring how estimates are sent to campus, making the process more accurate.”
In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University’s Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.
The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact the Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) at csec-nominations-g@wiu.edu.
