Western Illinois University’s Giving Tuesday 2021 Exceeds Goal
MACOMB/Moline, IL – The 2021 #GivingTuesday, a worldwide fundraising movement that’s held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, brought more than $27,000 to Western Illinois University programs and special projects that will benefit students, faculty, staff and the University as a whole.
Some of the special programs unveiled on #GivingTuesday as part of WIU’s new crowdfunding platform, WIU Fund It (bit.ly/WIUFundIt) included the WIU Food Pantry, Multicultural Center sustainability efforts, fraternity and sorority life leadership, The CPA Project-Promoting Diversity, Alternative Spring Break, the WIU Student Emergency Fund and the Sherman Hall carillon. Gifts were also directed to specific scholarships and other WIU programs. A total of $27,494 was raised, with $3,340 designated for the WIU Fund It campaign projects.
“We are grateful for each and every Leatherneck who joined us on #GivingTuesday in the spirit of generosity and in supporting the institution they love,” said Tim Hallinan ’95, director of the WIU Foundation’s Annual Fund. “Great things truly happen when Leathernecks give.”
According to Hallinan, the new WIU Fund It is a platform to help the Leatherneck community raise money so their ideas and passions can become an impactful reality. The WIU platform works like GoFundMe or Kickstarter, with one crucial difference: all projects are conceived by Western students, alumni, faculty, and staff, with 100 percent of the proceeds supporting each cause.
