Western Illinois University’s Abraham Returns to Provost Post
MACOMB/Moline, IL – Western Illinois University Board of Trustees Chair Polly Radosh announced that Martin Abraham will serve as WIU’s provost and academic vice president beginning January 2021.
Abraham, who was originally hired as Western’s new provost in 2019, had served as acting/interim president since July 2019. Interim Provost Billy Clow will return to the dean’s post for the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC), while Interim Dean Buzz Hoon will return to the position of COFAC associate dean. Clow had served as interim provost since January 2019.
“We are pleased that Dr. Abraham has agreed to serve as the provost and academic vice president. As the interim president, Dr. Abraham moved Western forward during a challenging time in the University’s history. I would also like to thank Dean Clow for his work leading the academic affairs division as the interim provost. The Board looks forward to working with Dr. Abraham in his role as provost and other members of the president’s cabinet, along with the entire University community, to build a stronger future for Western Illinois University,” Radosh added.
Before joining WIU, Abraham served as a professor of civil/environmental and chemical engineering at Youngstown State University since 2007. He was provost and vice president for academic affairs at Youngstown from 2015-2018. Abraham has also served as the interim provost and founding dean, College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at Youngstown. He has also served as the dean of the College of Graduate Studies; dean of the Graduate School; associate dean, Research and Graduate Studies, College of Engineering, Chemical Engineering undergraduate program coordinator and professor of engineering at the University of Toledo.
