Western Illinois University Union Director Interviews Scheduled
Two candidates for director of the Western Illinois University Union will interview on campus Thursday-Friday, June 3-4 and Tuesday-Wednesday, June 8-9.
Candidates include Ashley Katz, interim director of the University Union at WIU, June 3-4, and Brent Freeman, senior associate director of Nebraska Unions at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, June 8-9.
Virtual open sessions for faculty, staff and students will be held with each candidate from 1:15-2 p.m. June 4 (Katz) and from 1:45-2:30 p.m. June 9 (Freeman). Individuals interested in participating in the open sessions must register in advance at form.jotform.com/211464601279151.
Katz has served as interim director of the University Union at WIU since January 2020, and has also served as assistant director of the Union since April 2015 and as the facilities manager for the building from May 2011-April 2015. She began working at WIU in July 2009 as a space administrator 1 in Scheduling and Event Services. Prior to coming to WIU, Katz was the conference coordinator in Scheduling and Conference Services at the University of California, Irvine, from August 2007-June 2009 and Operations Manager at Dobbs University Center at Emory University, from July 2006-July 2007.
Katz received her bachelor’s degree in sociology from WIU in May 2004, and her master’s degree in college student personnel from WIU in May 2006.
Freeman has served as the senior associate director of Nebraska Unions since July 2020, and served as senior assistant director of operations for Nebraska Unions from October 2013-June 2020. He served as program coordinator of memberships and front desk operations for Campus Recreation Services at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas from July 2013-October 2013. From August 2012-February 2013, Freeman was a facilities and event management assistant in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at Washington State University (WSU); coordinator of facilities and operations for University Recreation at WSU, from August 2009-August 2012; events manager of the Compton Union Building at WSU from May 2008-October 2009; and coordinator of membership services and special events at University Recreation at WSU from August 2004-May 2008.
Freeman received his bachelor’s degree in sport management from WSU in July 2004, his master’s degree in educational administration-higher education administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in August 2017 and his Master of Business Administration (MBA) in human resource development from Pittsburg State University in Kansas in May 2021.
