Western Illinois University is waiving the $30 application fee for undergraduate students, who apply to WIU (wiu.edu/apply) through Sunday, May 9.

Graduating high school seniors and transfer students, dual enrollment students and those applying through the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) program, who apply for admission to Western, will have the application fee waived during the fee waiver month beginning at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, April 21 through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, May 9.

“We love it that we are still able to provide opportunities for this fall to students who may be deciding on a college choice,” said Doug Freed, director of Undergraduate Admissions and Enrollment Services. “We are particularly pleased that our automatic scholarship program will be available to students who are applying now.”

There are still openings in the fall class for freshmen and transfer students. Opportunities for student scholarships are still available and will

continue until the Fall 2021 semester begins in August. The Western Commitment Scholarship automatically awards $3,000-8,000 each year to incoming freshmen with excellent academic ability and achievement in high school. In addition, Western has revised the Transfer Commitment Scholarship, increasing the award to $2,500 and making the scholarship available for part-time students.

For students from Adams, Brown, Fulton, Hancock, Henderson, Knox, McDonough, Schuyler or Warren counties, the Local Leatherneck Housing Scholarship provides a one-time $3,000 award toward an on-campus residence hall room to incoming full-time freshmen from the western Illinois region. New freshmen who are the children and grandchildren of WIU graduates automatically qualify for the $1,500 WIU Legacy Scholarship, and those new students from the Chicago and St. Louis regions have specific scholarships in place, as well.

Western’s Leatherneck Visitor Scholarship gives incoming freshmen and transfers a one-time $1,000 award if they attend a virtual WIU Undergraduate Admissions event for either the Macomb or Quad Cities campus. See more at wiu.edu/visit.

More information on WIU scholarships (automatic and donor designated application-based scholarships) can be found at wiu.edu/scholarships. Prospective freshmen and transfers interested in being considered for the automatic scholarships available at WIU can apply at wiu.edu/apply.

Western will continue its test optional admissions policy for students applying for the 2021-2022 academic year and beyond. Students are automatically admitted to WIU if they have a 2.75 or higher high school GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
