Music Guild Holding Auditions For Summer Shows
The Quad-City Music Guild will hold auditions for it’s Summer Season. Here is the audition information for all three shows:

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.”
Come join us “Under the Sea”! We are looking for an imaginative, talented and high-spirited cast of 23-30 people to fill out principal, featured and ensemble roles in this production. We have an active ensemble with constant movement (or ‘swimming’), featured dancers, featured speaking parts, and solo singing lines.
The minimum age to audition for this show is 16 at the time of auditions. For the role of Flounder only, we will also consider boys (with unchanged voices) or girls age 10 and up at time of auditions.
Auditioners should be prepared to sing up to 32 measures of an up tempo song, or 16 measures of a slower tempo song, which best suits your vocal range. Please bring sheet music for the accompanist. You will also be asked to learn a brief dance movement, so wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Auditioners may also be asked to read excerpts from the script. Most importantly, we want you to relax and enjoy yourself we are excited to see you!

Broadway classic WEST SIDE STORY tells the tale of young lovers who are caught between prejudice and violence. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is transported to modern-day New York City as two young, idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the “American” Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice makes WEST SIDE STORY one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time. From the first notes to the final breath, WEST SIDE STORY is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories EVER WRITTEN. This landmark Broadway musical is one of the theatre’s finest accomplishments.
AGE – You must be at least 16 years old at the time of auditions.
SONG – Please prepare a song of up to 32 bars that best shows off your vocal talents. Bear in mind that at an audition simple is often best. Bring a copy of your music to share with our accompanist (who may be reading your music for the first time!) Singing to pre-recorded music will not be permitted.
DANCE – This is a dance musical, with a heavy emphasis on athletic movement. With the exception of Doc, Shrank, Glad Hand and Krupke, everyone will be expected to dance. Dress comfortably and wear comfortable shoes to auditions. We are here to help and encourage you.
READINGS – Readings from the script will be available, but we will only be reading a limited number of roles. Not everyone will be asked to read, but everyone will be considered for a place in the cast.
REHEARSALS – Rehearsals will typically be Monday through Friday from 6:30 until 9 PM. Due to the intense amount of dance, instead of the normal 6 week rehearsal time we are considering and 8 week rehearsal period beginning on or about May 22.
WEST SIDE STORY is known for its glorious music and athletic dances. It is also praised for addressing themes of racism, gang violence and bigotry, We have an opportunity and an obligation to not simply entertain our audiences but to educate them as well and hope to do so. Join us at auditions as we begin our journey bringing this Broadway classic to the Quad City Music Guild stage.

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s SUNSET BOULEVARD weaves a magnificent tale of faded glory and unfilled ambition. Silent movie star Norma Desmond longs for a return to the big screen, having been discarded by ‘Tinsel-Town’ with the advent of ‘talkies’. Her fame and glamour have faded in all but her mind. When she meets struggling Hollywood screen-writer, Joe Gillis, in dramatic circumstances, their subsequent passionate and volatile relationship leads to an unforeseen and tragic conclusion. Winner of 7 Tony Awards including Best Original Broadway Production, Best Musical Score and Book, Best Actress, Best Featured Actor, Best Sound and Lighting Designs
We will be looking for an exciting, talented, dedicated cast of 24-28 to fill out the several principal, featured and ensemble roles in this production. In addition to the roles listed below, there are 43 identified speaking/singing parts which will be filled by members of the ensembles. Choreography is present in the production, but don’t let that scare you off! Although most cast members will be required to ‘move’ some, we will utilize featured dancers for more difficult dances in the production. The score and script of this production are challenging: incorporating ‘speak-singing’, difficult rhythms and key changes, and all must be incorporated within continuous, seamless scene changes.
The minimum age to audition for this production is High School Freshman at time of auditions.
Please prepare to sing up to 32 measures of an upbeat tempo song, or 16 measures of a slower tempo song, which best suits your vocal range. Those auditioning for principal roles should select a song which highlights the range for the part you are most interested in. You are welcome to sing a selection from the show. Please bring sheet music for the accompanist. Unless auditioning only for the role of Max, you will be asked to learn a brief dance movement, so wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
