Circa Holding Auditions For Fancy Nancy

Circa ’21 is thrilled to announce auditions for one of the few productions of Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas The Musical to have been licensed in 2017.

Auditions will be held at the theatre, 1828 3rd Avenue, in downtown Rock Island, on Saturday, October 28 at 9:00 A.M. This new musical, based on the hugely successful children’s books, has been touring the United States for the last few years.

Denny Hitchcock, the dinner theatre’s producer, is “thrilled to be one of the few theatres in the country to be granted the rights to produce this ‘splendiferous’ musical now. I know our guests will love the production.”

What could be fancier than Christmas? Presents with elegant wrapping paper, festive decorations and who could forget the tree? This year, Nancy is especially excited. After selling some of her old gowns and accessories, Nancy has enough money to buy a brand-new sparkly tree topper. She can’t wait to decorate the Christmas tree. But when things don’t turn out the way Nancy planned, will Christmas still be splendiferous? It will at Circa ’21, starting November 24 for 18 daytime performances running until December 26.

Circa Holding Auditions For Fancy Nancy

The directorial team at the helm of Fancy Nancy are long-time favorite children’s theatre director/choreographer/actor, Andrea Moore and serving as musical director for his 9th production at the Rock Island landmark, Travis Smith. Moore and Smith are seeking 6 adult performers: 3 women and 3 men, who are strong actor/singers who move well for the following roles:

Actor 1: Early 20s Soprano

Fancy Nancy is a young elementary school girl who adores being fancy. For Nancy, fancy doesn’t mean expensive.

It means overstated, colorful, or anything French! She loves making everything fancier…especially at Christmastime!

Actor 2: Early 20s Soprano

JOJO/ CHRISTMAS CAROLER #1

JoJo is Nancy’s younger sister, around 4 years old. She can be a handful and is known to have the occasional temper tantrum. She loves her family, especially her big sister, Nancy.

Actor 3: 20s-40s. Tenor

FATHER/ CHRISTMAS CAROLER #2

Mr. Clancy is Nancy’s dad. A doting father who loves his family. A voice of reason when Nancy tries being too fancy, as well as a shoulder to lean on when things go wrong.

Actor 4: 20s-40s Soprano

MOTHER/ CHRISTMAS CAROLER #3

Mrs. Clancy, Nancy’s mom, is the soothing presence in the family. Mrs. Clancy turns disagreements into compromises. She adores her family and lovingly passes along the traditions of Christmas to her daughters.

Actor 5: 20s-60s Alto

MRS. DEVINE/ CHRISTMAS CAROLER #4

Mrs. DeVine, the Clancy’s next-door neighbor, is a lady in every sense of the word. A former ballroom-dance teacher in her late sixties, she is over-the-top but not in a snobby way. Mrs. Devine is very friendly to everybody. She recognizes that real fanciness does not simply depend on appearances but more on a genuine joie de vivre (which is fancy for having fun!).

Actor 6: 30s-60s Tenor

GRANDPA CLANCY/CHRISTMAS CAROLER #5

Grandpa Clancy is Mr. Clancy’s father. A widower, he spends every Christmas with his family doting on his granddaughters. When things go wrong, it’s Grandpa Clancy who knows how to make things better.

Those auditioning are asked to bring a current resume and photo; prepare 16 bars of an up-tempo contemporary Broadway show tune; bring their music in the proper key, for the accompanist provided; be prepared to do a movement combination, and read from the script, if asked to do so. Please address any questions to Denny Hitchcock at dpjh@circa21.com.
