Rock Island’s Rozz Tox Hosting Cult Classic ‘Pink Flamingos’ Tonight
Rozz-Tox, 2108 3rd Ave., Rock Island, is hosting an outdoor screening of the 1972 cult film classic “Pink Flamingos,” by John Waters, in the garden tonight (Friday), at 10 p.m. Admission is free and attendees must be at least 17 years old.
“Pink Flamingos” has become a revered and reviled cult classic since its release, and at the time of its release it was one of the most divisive films of all time.
Here are some quotes from reviews of the film:
“one of the most vile, stupid and repulsive films ever made.” — Variety
“beyond pornography… the nearest American film to Bunuel’s Andalusian Dog” — New York Magazine
“proceed immediately… the sickest movie ever made, and one of the funniest” — Interview
Rozz-Tox bills itself as a “listening bar, cafe, brasserie, zakka, performance venue, gallery, culture cell, guesthouse, library, cinema, club; a virus whose ultimate goal is to constantly mutate to avoid becoming part of mainstream culture.”
