Rock Island’s Local Union 25, Mechanical Contractors Association Donate $20K to Area Hospitals
Rock Island — In the coming weeks, twelve area hospitals are set to receive a combined $20,000 from the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 25 and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Eastern Iowa/Western Illinois (MCA).
Through their Labor-Management Cooperative Committee (LMCC), both Local Union 25 and the MCA work to preserve and expand job opportunities in the Quad Cities region and explore innovative approaches for the advancement of the industry as a whole. The group’s unanimous decision to donate to local healthcare facilities comes in the wake of the continued spread of COVID-19.
“We wanted a way to support the frontline workers — the doctors, nurses and other hospital staff who work every day to keep our communities safe and healthy,” said Matt Lienen, Local Union 25 Business Manager. “These hospitals may use the money in any way they see fit to battle COVID-19, including the purchase of specialized lab equipment, personal protective equipment for staff members, even gift cards to local restaurants for staff working extended hours.”
“The decision to donate funds was an easy one. We wanted to give back to the community we all live in, and particularly to the hospitals and their staff who are facing new and difficult challenges each day during this pandemic,” said Rick Lundvall, MCA Executive Director. “All of these hospitals with their amazing facilities provide great opportunities for our contractors and Local Union 25 members to work in. This is a great way to show our support of them and thank them for always being there for us.”
Trinity and Genesis hospitals within the Quad Cities metro will receive the lion’s share of the funds at $5,000 each. Additional hospitals will receive $1,000 each, including: Hammond Henry Hospital (Geneseo), Mercy Hospital (Clinton), Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital (Dixon), CGH Medical Center (Sterling), Cottage Hospital (Galesburg), OSF St. Mary Medical Center (Galesburg), Morrison Community Hospital (Morrison), Blessing Hospital (Quincy), Quincy VA Clinic (Quincy) and Quincy Medical Group (Quincy).
Distribution of the funds to each medical center began the week of April 20 and will continue into the coming weeks.

Their generous donation will help ensure our frontline healthcare staff has the vital support necessary to remain at the forefront of COVID-19, for the health of our patients and the safety of our community.”
