Rock Island Library Offering Tons Of Awesome Events During September!

The official “spokesperson” of National Library Card Sign-up Month is Wonder Woman, who reminds everyone that libraries are wonderful. The Rock Island Public Library is also providing wonderful reasons to celebrate with special prize drawings, yard signs, and new events that help you maximize use of your library card.

All new and renewed Rock Island Library card applications received during September will be automatically entered into prize drawings for library gifts, book bags, and prizes. Patrons who already have a Rock Island Public Library card can enter with a Library Card Sign-up Month Bingo sheet. To enter, complete enough activities to make bingo in any direction, and return the completed card to any Rock Island Public Library location. The Bingo form is available at any Rock Island Library or at the library website, under Videos and Resources.

Rock Island Library Offering Tons Of Awesome Events During September! While supplies last, Rock Island Library is helping you show your support with “In This House, We Support Libraries” yard signs. Signs are available to Rock Island Library patrons at no additional charge, although donations are welcome. For details, visit any Rock Island Public Library.

Two new event series also start up this September, giving adult and teen patrons additional ways to benefit from their library cards. The Library University series offers a variety of Zoom meetings on how to access library information and learning tools. To receive the meeting link, please register. Course offerings include a September 8 class on using the library’s free tutoring and job search assistance tools (Brainfuse HelpNow and JobNow,) a September 14 class on using the library’s free New York Times online subscription and online magazine service, and a September 23 “What should I read next” class on using library tools to discover great new books. A class on using library eBooks and digital audiobooks is planned for October 7. Programs are open to both teens and adults.

For adults, the library is offering “Fall in Love with a New Hobby” take-home kits. The library will release a new kit every two weeks with a hobby to enjoy at home. Each kit contains the supplies needed to try out the hobby without a financial commitment, along with a list of books on the hobby in the library collection. If you decide the hobby is right for you, the books will help you take it further. September kits include Cross Stitch/Embroidery, available starting September 14, and Bread Baking, available starting September 28. Registration opens at 9:00 am one week prior, and enrollment is limited.

To sign up, and see more events in each series, visit the online calendar at www.rockislandlibrary.org.
