Rock Island Libraries Still Thriving Online!

Rock Island Public Library Buildings are still closed for the Governor’s Executive Order but the Library Services Go On in a Virtual Way.

Late last week, the Illinois Governor revised and extended his Executive Stay-At-Home executive order to May 30. For details, see this page from the Illinois Department of Public Health

As a result, all Rock Island Public Library buildings remain closed until further notice.

The library is working on a phased plan for re-introducing library services to our community, which includes a gradual reopening. This gradual reopening will most likely include a period of curbside service, shorter hours, and limited services. They will not reopen buildings until it is safe to do so. Please know that the library takes the safety of our staff and patrons very seriously, and that any decisions made about when and how to reopen are made with this in mind.

Rock Island Libraries Still Thriving Online! In the meantime, please hold onto your items for now. You can do so knowing that:

  • Due dates for items from March 13 to April 30 have been further extended to June 26. This due date applies to ANY item checked out from a PrairieCat member library.
  • Expiration dates for any cards that would have expired in March, April or May have been further extended to July 1, 2020. Again, this applies to any card issued within the PrairieCat library network. This means you can continue using library digital services to check out eBooks, audiobooks, listen to music, watch movies, learn, and research.

So, please continue to keep your physical library items until we reopen outside book drops. When these book drops reopen, we will notify our patrons.

Information about our plans will be available on the library’s Facebook page and via our eNewsletter in the coming weeks. Stay tuned, and stay safe!
