Thurgood Brooks

Thurgood Brooks (former Mayoral candidate and one of the authors of “The Resolution”) presented his revised initiative to the Rock Island City Council during the public comments section of the meeting.

The presentation highlighted the progress of this initiative to the Rock Island City Council and residents.

After several rounds of discussion with city officials since June 2020, “The Resolution” was adapted and revised during previous study sessions and city council meetings and was set for a vote by Rock Island city council members at the most recent council meeting, passing 7-0.

Brooks was elated with the result, posting on his Facebook page:

“90 days later… we did it! 7-0 vote to approve the formation of the Police Community Relations Commission in Rock Island. Yes, 90 days! On behalf my team, I want to thank everyone who supported and remained committed to seeing this through.
I sincerely hope this will show proof and an example of what we can do, TOGETHER, when we decide the need to address an issue is bigger than one individual. In fact, it’s about your great-grand kids. Let’s remember this as we continue our efforts to building our community together.
