Quad City Arts’ Quarantine Exhibit Postponed Until October 2021
Quad City Arts’ plan to help regional artists stay motivated by creating artwork throughout the quarantine — which began in March 2020 — will continue into 2021 with the culminating exhibition of chosen works postponed to October 2021.
The plan is to share the artwork with the public when we can safely gather socially, said Dawn Wohlford-Metallo, visual arts director at Quad
City Arts. “As the pandemic wears on, it is more important than ever for people to express themselves creatively,” she said.
All artists residing within a 250-mile radius of the Quad-Cities are invited to submit up to two artworks of any medium created during the pandemic which began in March, for a juried, group exhibition in Quad City Arts’ Rock Island Gallery from Oct. 15 to Dec. 3, 2021.
There is NO entry fee. Artwork that was entered previously will still be considered. For information, visit https://www.quadcityarts.com/quarantine-art-exhibition-entries.
The entries for the exhibit will be due on Aug. 6. 2021 at quadcityarts.com. On Sept. 10, 2021, artists will be notified of acceptance status. Accepted artists will deliver artwork to Quad City Arts Oct. 9, 2021 (mailed art must arrive by Oct. 8).
A public reception for the exhibit will be announced at a later date.
The Quarantine Art Exhibition was originally scheduled to open in February. As social distancing guidelines are still in place, Quad City Arts has chosen to postpone the exhibition to a time where an opening reception could be held, Wohlford-Metallo said.
“We want to come together as a community of artists to celebrate those that used this time to create art. Unfortunately, now is not that time, but fortunately, that time seems to be on the horizon,” she said.
Quad City Arts is a nonprofit local arts agency dedicated to enriching the quality of life in the region through the arts. Support for art exhibitions is provided by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Quad City Arts Gallery is located at 1715 Second Avenue, in the Rock Island Arts and Entertainment District.
