The many accolades and associated acts of this trio are worldly impressive and far too many to do justice to
each of these virtuoso musicians. Please honor your musical soul and visit each of their websites.
In brevity, Oz Noy won the highly acclaimed Guitar Player magazine readers poll for “Best guitar riff on a
record” (2007), “Best new talent” (2008), and “Best out there guitar player” (2013). He has played with an
extensive list of top level acts; Sting, Chris Botti, Phoebe Snow, Don Henley, Allman Brothers…on and on.
Jimmy Haslip, founding member of the Yellowjackets, two time GRAMMY winners, has been nominated for
seventeen GRAMMYs. Jimmy was also nominated for an Edison award in 2000 and additional GRAMMY
nominations since.
Has played with an impressive list of musicians; Al Jarreau, Gino Vannelli, Bruce Hornsby, Allan Holdsworth,
Donald Fagan Marilyn Scott, Eric Marienthal, Chris Botti, Dave Koz, Herb Albert, Lee Ritenour, The
Rippingtons, Diana Ross, Rod Stewart, Steely Dan, Kiss, Crosby Stills and Nash plus too many other icons to
list! He plays a left-handed bass guitar, he strings it upside-down – in other words, his low B string is physically
lower than his high C. Add to this his phenomenal ability when it comes to fast soloing, and your brain ends up
tied in knots.
Dennis Chambers, world renown funk drummer was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2001.
Chambers was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music from Berklee College of Music in 2004.
Well-known among drummers for his impressive technique and speed. Chambers is particularly regarded for
his ability to play “in the pocket” but can also stretch very far out of the pocket which is also a hallmark of his
technique. Chambers exhibits a powerful style that is technically proficient, yet highly musical and
groove-oriented. He is mostly known for his fast hands and triplets on the bass drum. He can play in a wide
variety of musical genres, but is perhaps most notable for his jazz-fusion, funk, and Latin music playing.
Chambers talented diversity is solidified by his highly respected catalog of artists he has recorded and
performed with: Tommy Coster, John Scofield, George Duke, Victor Wooten, Brecker Brothers, Carlos
Santana, Parliament/Funkadelic, John McLaughlin, Mike Stern, Tower of Power , Maceo Parker, Steely Dan
and many other iconic artists.
Through it all, Oz Noy’s guitar is the connecting thread. Whether steering the band with incisive, stark rhythm
work or soaring over the grooves with impeccable single-note leads that recall the graceful, nuanced inflection
of a fine soul vocalist, Noy brilliantly walks a musical tightrope spanning the best of the past and the future.
Surprising, danceable, and accessible, Who Gives a Funk is a powerfully heartfelt new statement from one of
contemporary guitar’s great improvisational stylists. Listening to this on cd is incredible, seeing this show live is
memorable.
