On Thursday Night, Davenport’s Redstone Room Reopens For Live Concert
After an invitation-only reception last Thursday featuring live music, the Redstone Room on the second floor of River Music Experience (129 Main St., Davenport) finally reopens for a public concert this Thursday, at 8 p.m., with an All Sweat Series “Island Del Soul” event, with several artists. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.
An All Sweat Series “Island Del Soul” concert will start Thursday at 8 pm. at the Redstone Room.
The RME provided the following description of the lineup:
- Nadirah Shakoor — At the tender age of five, Nadirah told her parents she wanted to “be a singer like Diana Ross.” Her family migrated from Texas to California where she studied commercial voice and went on to become one of the premier singers in Los Angeles and a much sought-after backup singer for major tours. In 1992, she joined the Grammy Award-winning hip-hop group Arrested Development as the featured vocalist and was nominated for a Grammy with the success of their 2nd album. Nadirah joined Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band as a backup singer in 1995.
- Claire Finley is an electric bassist originally from Davenport, who currently resides in Key West, Fla. As a 2009 Berklee College of Music graduate, she enjoys playing many different styles of music in all different capacities. Live performing continues to be her passion but you will hear her sparkling vocals and pocket grooves shining through on a vast number of studio and live recordings as well. Traveling and seeing the world through music has always been a top priority in Claire’s life. While at home, she enjoys the perks of the Florida Keys…finding inspiration at the beach and performing at iconic venues around town with new and old friends.
- From Singapore to Key West, Manhattan to the Caribbean, crowds of all ages and nationalities have seen John Patti bring the steel pan to the forefront of musical entertainment. - Eric Erdman was writing songs at 8 years old. When he and his older brother sat at the end of their family’s pier on Mobile Bay, they learned to play guitar to the rhythm of the waves and they pulled as many tunes from that water as they did fish. Eric’s passion for and knowledge of music grew throughout his high school and college years. After graduating from the University of South Alabama with a B.S. in Statistics, Eric continued to pursue his music career, forming the funk rock band The Ugli Stick. The group recorded four albums and toured worldwide for years with Eric as front man. Soon Eric joined the writing staff in Muscles Shoals at legendary Fame Studios, where he not only met and impressed producer Jimmy Nutt, but also soaked up inspiration from the history and roots of the small north Alabama town known as “The Hit Recording Capital of the World.”
- Keiko Komaki personifies music. An accomplished pianist and B-3 player, Komaki hails from Kagoshima, Japan and began playing the piano at just 5 years old. After graduation from Kunitachi College of Music, she quickly became more interested in the improvisation world playing funk, blues, and jazz fusion rather than her classical roots. However, it was a few years later where she learned of New Orleans music. She later visited New Orleans for Jazz Fest and decided to take the bold step
Bassist Claire Finley, originally from Davenport, is based in Key West, Fla.
in 2006 to move to the city and make it as a musician, despite opposition from her family. Keiko has reached her goal of musical success in the city. Shortly after moving to New Orleans, she started to play with the Late Marva Wright and the Wild Magnolias as their keyboard player and started to perform at local clubs and tour with them till Marva passed away. Since then, she has played with many of the Crescent City’s most beloved musicians including Benny Turner, Charlie Wooton, Vasti Jackson, Brass-a-holics, Marc Stone, George Porter Jr., and Johnny Vidacovich.
- Bryan West is a professional recording and touring drummer with a diverse musical background. For 35 years, he has toured throughout the U.S. and Canada with many different artists which includes performing at the Metro and the House of Blues in Chicago as well as CBGB’S in New York and many others. Bryan has recorded at Paisley Park Studios in Minnesota and most recently at East Iris Studio and Purple House in Nashville with Grammy-winning producer Casey Wasner. Bryan’s education began studying with Cleveland, Ohio jazz drummer Don Friedman and later with seven-time Grammy winner Paul Wertico in Chicago. Currently, he’s a student of Mike Mangini (Dream Theater) and a member of the Billboard blues charting group, the Avey Grouws Band, and tours with Nashville recording artist Brad Morgan.
