Nahant Marsh Holding Family-Friendly Events During October
Come out to Nahant Marsh Education Center this month and see what nature has to offer during this spooky time of year. The Marsh is hosting a variety of programs this month for all ages.
Spend the morning examining mammal skulls with a naturalist to identify the animal and determine what it eats and what role it plays in the environment. There is also an evening program for those who cannot attend during regular business hours.
Do you enjoy making things or are looking for a great DIY project? The Marsh is offering 2 Woodworking Workshops this month with no experience necessary! Make a harvest basket, perfect for fall décor or gathering vegetables and flowers. In another workshop, keep the squirrels away with their own special feeding station—a Squirrel Picnic Table!
For the little ones, check out Toddler Tales and discover Spider Web Wonders just in time for Halloween.
For a free and memorable family outing, go on a Bat Walk through the Marsh at night! The program will begin with a short introduction followed by an evening sunset hike looking for and identifying bats using an ultrasonic recorder to detect their echolocation calls.
Other free nature programs happening this month include a weekend Nature Hike, Prairie Seed Harvesting 101, and a Bird Walk with a Nahant naturalist and other Quad City birding enthusiasts.
The Marsh will also hold its annual Fall Cleanup on Saturday, October 16th and is looking for volunteers. They will have opportunities for many age levels and abilities.
Pre-registration is required for all programs and events. Sign up here.
