Moline Regal Cinemas Shutting Down Thursday
In a move that will devastate the lives of thousands of employees nationwide just before the holidays, the Moline Regal Cinemas, in addition to over 500 other theaters nationwide, will be closed down this week.
The second-largest cinema chain in the United States, Regal Cinemas, which operates 543 locations in the United States, will be shutting down all of its movie theaters starting Thursday due a cascade of postponements for big-budget Hollywood films, most recently the James Bond title “No Time to Die” because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The chain had shut down its operations nationwide in March due to covid, but then showed signs of life after after reopening in August, before giving up the battle following a number of high profile postponements and cancellations of films until 2021 and a stock plunge for the theaters’ parent company Cineworld Group CNWGY -50.00%
Prior to theater closures, AMC, Regal, Cineplex, Arclight and Alamo Drafthouse chains imposed limits on sales as a safety precaution. AMC Theatres, which has 661 locations in North America, and Regal both announced on March 13 that they would be reducing their maximum capacity by at least 50% due to the outbreak. AMC said the policy would last through April 30.
Cinemark, which owns the Davenport, Iowa, theaters, has yet to announce any alterations or closings, and the Davenport movie theater remains open as of Monday.
