Rock Island Library “Heads to the Wild Side” For Library Card Signups
Librarians are pretty excited about getting people signed up for library cards during National Library Card Sign Up Month. To help get the word out about all the wild and amazing things you can do with a library card, Rock Island Public Library and three other Illinois Quad City libraries will show up this Friday in a pretty wild place – Niabi Zoo.
Rock Island Public Library has arranged to bring their Mobile Library2Go bookmobile to Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm on Friday, September 24, and invited other library partners to join in the fun. At the present time, East Moline Public Library, Robert R. Jones Public Library (Coal Valley), and the Sherrard Public Library District plan to attend.
The Rock Island Public Library serves residents of Rock Island and of the Milan-Blackhawk Area Public District. Zoo visitors from those communities, or from those of other libraries present at the event, will be able to apply or renew library cards on site. (Residents of other communities will be directed to information about how to apply with their libraries.)
Zoo visitors who stop by the library card sign up event at Niabi Zoo can enter special prize drawings. Rock Island Public Library will draw winners for one wooden toy train, handmade by local artisan Jim Miller, and for three $5 Whitey’s gift cards at the end of the day from all entries received. Winners will be called, with prize pickup available at any Rock Island Public Library location.
As another way of celebrating National Library Card Sign Up Month, Rock Island Public Library is conducting prize drawings from all new and renewed RIPL cards received in September. RIPL cards are available to anyone living in either the City of Rock Island, or the library’s extended service territory of the Milan-Blackhawk Public Library District. Residents may either apply through the library website or at the Rock Island Downtown, Southwest, and Library2Go locations.
