LeClaire Community Library Unveils Kindergarten Program Tuesday
Tuesday, March 12, LeClaire Community Library re-launches their 1000 Books Before
Kindergarten program at an open house to celebrate the freshly completed remodeling in the
Children’s Library Area. The event begins at 5 pm, and includes Storytime with special guest
reader Dennis Gerard, the mayor of LeClaire, along with our talented staff readers. Clifford the
Big Red Dog will be on hand to greet children and pose for pictures, and TJ Regul, balloon
artist, will share his fun inflated creations.
The City of LeClaire funded the new carpet and re-painting of the space, and the Hubbell-
Waterman Foundation awarded a $5000 grant to pay for new furniture. New furniture has begun
to arrive and will be on display at Tuesday night’s event, which will also showcase all-new
displays and incentive prizes for the children participating in 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.
The Friends of LeClaire Community Library funded the upgrades to the 1KBB4K program and
Tuesday’s coming celebration.
According to Library director Melita Tunnicliff this project would not have been possible without
library’s generous donors and enthusiastic support from the City of LeClaire, the Friends of the
LeClaire Community Library organization, and philanthropic funders like the Hubbell-Waterman
Foundation. “This is LeClaire Library’s 20 th year, and we are thrilled to start our renovations and
celebrations with our Children’s Library. Since 2004, the library’s robust slate of programs and
initiatives has made it a vital part of family life and entertainment in LeClaire and surrounding
areas. This summer we will be revealing even more renovations to our building and to the City
Centre Plaza outside our front door.”
Everyone is encouraged to come to Tuesday’s celebration both for a fun family event and also a
chance to see the library’s new look!
