This week’s artist is Kevin E. Smith!
Here’s his bio:
Kevin E. Smith is a self-taught lifelong artist originally from Erie, Illinois, and currently lives in Moline, Illinois. From 1979 to 1986 Kevin was in the military, during which time he received first place in an on-base art contest at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. Following his time of service, Kevin enrolled in the commercial art program at Blackhawk College to obtain a better knowledge of the more technical aspects of art. In 1989, Kevin began employment at the Rock Island Arsenal working as an Illustrator, Graphic Designer and Exhibit Specialist for a Defense Contractor where he worked on concepts and designs for the Desert Storm and Desert Shield logos. In 1994, after completing a 4-year apprenticeship with an award-winning tattoo artist, Kevin opened Zodiac Studios with a partner in Davenport, creating a unique and exclusive original art design and tattoo studio. During that time, he worked with the Iowa Health Department to help set up the health standards for tattooing that are still in place today. For the past ten years, Kevin has been focusing mainly on his illustrations and researching book concepts, as well as experimenting with sculpting in various media. Kevin has recently started a new venture called The Wizard’s Quill, soon to be an online outlet for original artwork and its sales.
Kevin’s illustrations have been featured in several publications throughout his career and his work has been spotlighted in numerous art shows, including a solo exhibit displaying fantasy art illustrations from January to February of 1990 at the Quad City Arts Gallery, as well as one of the featured artists in The Artist Behind the Tattoo exhibit at the Quad City Arts Gallery in February-March 2020.
