Jazzy Ash Leaping Into Quad-Cities
The Quad City Arts’ Visiting Artist Series will present its first ever summer residency June 15-19 with New Orleans jazz band Jazzy Ash & the Leaping Lizards!
The group will be putting on free performances around the QC region, including a Father’s day concert during the Freight House Farmer’s Market in Davenport (11:00 am June 16), at the Moline Public Library on June 17 at 6:30 pm, the LeClaire Community library outdoor plaza on June 18 at 6:00 pm (rain location: next door at the firehall, 201 N 15th St.), a free concert for Rock Island summer camps and the public at MLK Jr. Park on June 19 at 1:00 p.m. (free ice cream will be provided at this show by Vibrant Credit Union!), and several shows for summer school programs in the area.
Jazzy Ash & the Leaping Lizards’ full-length public performance on Saturday, June 15 has moved to join the 2019 Quad City Juneteenth Festival at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds! This performance will take place on the indoor stage at the Starlite Ballroom on the Fairgrounds at 1:00 p.m. and is still free and open to the public. Quad City Arts is excited to partner with RME and the Juneteenth festival for this family-friendly concert.
Jazzy Ash invites the whole family to come along on a Crescent City inspired, jazzy music adventure with her band the Leaping Lizards. Arranged and enhanced for a new generation, Jazzy Ash’s music encourages kids and their grown-ups to celebrate the music of New Orleans as part of the American folk music heritage.
In concert, Jazzy Ash & the Leaping Lizards perform originals like “Throw Me Something Mista” that conjures the spirit of a Mardi Gras parade as well as jazz standards including “When the Saints go Marching In” and Louis Armstrong’s “Heebie Jeebies” in front of gorgeous projected images of New Orleans, Congo Square, the Louisiana bayou and even a field of fireflies.
